The older I get the more music sucks. I find myself either listening to NPR or music that was made when music was good – you know the 70’s and 80’s!
As music faded (see what I did there?) from my ears some years ago, I started listening to podcasts more and more. I started with the standard fair (This American Life & some TED Radio Hour) before really exploring the diversity of the world of podcasts.
Today I wanted to share a podcast I discovered last year that I think you will find both inspirational, enlightening and humorous.
How I Built This
The podcast is about “innovators, entrepreneurs, idealists, and the stories behind the movements they built”.
This podcast hosted by Guy Raz, started in September of 2016 so it’s episode history isn’t as long (36 episodes as of this writing) as some older podcasts. How I built This offers insight into the mindset of idea makers and entrepreneurs as they struggle to achieve their goals or take advantage of an opportunity.
You won’t have to listen long to appreciate the intriguing stories behind familiar names like Samuel Adams, Angie’s List, Southwest Airlines or AOL.
To start you off I recommend you start with episode #2 (Instagram: Kevin Systrom & Mike Krieger) or episode #6 (Airbnb: Joe Gebbia). Each episode is a bite sized 30 minutes or so – easy to digest on the way to work or as you prep dinner for the munchkins.
Enjoy and be inspired!
